Calendar sync, explained.

How to keep Google, Outlook, iCloud and CalDAV calendars in agreement, and how to fix the problems people run into along the way.

iCloud ↔ Google

Sync iCloud Calendar with Google Calendar, actually two-way.

An iCloud "Share Calendar" link publishes a read-only .ics subscription. Google Calendar reads it one way, often caches it for hours, and edits on the Google side never reach iCloud.

Outlook ↔ Google

Sync Outlook and Google calendars without sharing event details.

Keeping a personal Google calendar and a work Outlook/Microsoft 365 calendar aligned usually means a choice: enter everything twice, or expose full event details across a boundary you'd rather keep private.

CalDAV ↔ Google

Sync a Fastmail or Nextcloud calendar with Google Calendar.

Fastmail, Nextcloud and most self-hosted or privacy-focused calendar providers speak CalDAV, an open standard, but none offer two-way sync with Google. The usual workaround is a one-way export or copying events by hand.

Conflict safety

Stop silent overwrites and accidental deletes in calendar sync.

When the same event is edited on two connected calendars close together, most sync tools pick one side and silently overwrite the other. You only find out when your change disappears.

Zapier, Make & Power Automate

Why your Zapier calendar sync keeps creating duplicate events.

Copying events between Google Calendar and Outlook with Zapier, Make or Power Automate usually works for brand new events, then falls apart: every edit adds another copy, two automations end up triggering each other, and deleted events never leave the other calendar.

Microsoft 365 · EWS retirement

Free/busy between two Microsoft 365 organizations stopped working? Here’s why.

If colleagues in a partner or client organization suddenly can’t see when you’re busy, or a shared calendar from another company stopped updating, Microsoft’s retirement of Exchange Web Services (EWS) is the likely cause. It started on October 1, 2026.

Microsoft Bookings

Microsoft Bookings keeps double-booking you? It only checks one calendar.

Your Bookings page offers a time, someone books it, and you were already busy: the conflict was in your Google Calendar, a second Outlook account, or another calendar in your mailbox. Bookings never saw it.

Two Microsoft 365 accounts

Two jobs, two Microsoft 365 accounts: block time on both without sharing details.

With a separate work account for each job or client, each calendar only knows about its own meetings. People at one job book you over commitments at the other, and you don’t want either employer seeing the other’s meeting titles.

Stop copying events by hand.
